3.5M for Lloyd Park Successfully Secured

£3.5m of lottery money has been successfully secured to redevelop Lloyd Park. The council will receive nearly £3.5m from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery Fund to renovate the popular park in Forest Road, Walthamstow.

The Council have also committed further funds for new facilities including a larger café, contemporary art gallery, community room for schools and other groups and a new bowling green. The terraced gardens behind the William Morris Gallery will be restored and a new William Morris garden created while new paths, fencing and landscaping will make the whole park more attractive and safer.

Cllr Geraldine Reardon, Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, Arts and Culture said she was thrilled by the news.

Cllr Reardon added: “Lloyd and Aveling Park is enjoyed every day by many Waltham Forest residents and I would like to thank all those who volunteered their time to help with the many meetings, Task Groups and consultations on the park's new design. We all worked very hard to bring our ideas together and achieve this tremendous result. Council investment in this project shows just how ambitious Labour is in providing much better open spaces and leisure facilities for Waltham Forest residents, now and long into the future."

Work on the project will begin later this year with completion in early 2012.
