Cathall construction centre has been given the go ahead by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) to continue its work training local people. The site will receive the necessary funding to expand and will focus on helping local people to apply for Olympic construction jobs.

Cllr Terry Wheeler, member for Enterprise and Investment said,  “The site will be going ahead as planned. We should be talking this borough up and helping residents find local jobs during these difficult times. This site will help and I am pleased to announce that we have secured the additional funding.”

Also, the latest figures show that the number of people in Waltham Forest starting and completing apprenticeships has more than trebled in the last four years.  In 2003-04 only 70 people in the borough completed apprenticeships. Between 2007-08 this number rose to 230 people, a rise of almost 250%.

Cllr Terry Wheeler added “We know that businesses value training and apprenticeships and that is why we will continue to invest in training our residents, helping them to gain skills vital for the job market. Times are tough so we need to provide additional help and support for families and businesses and that is what Labour policies will continue to do.”
